Why you should not do MBA ?

If you want to do MBA, you are at least aiming for IIM or one of the top B-Schools. Now I have many reasons for you to that you should not do MBA. If you have one of these reasons mentioned below you should not do MBA and if you have any other reason to do MBA don’t forget to mention in the comments at the end. But after reading these reasons, it is entirely upto you to choose your decision whether to do MBA or not.

       1) Attracted by packages (money) : 

If you are one of those who is attracted by the lakhs and crores of packages of IIM’s or any other top management colleges. I will say this, “Don’t go to IIM”! IIM is not the only means to earn a lot of money (whatever amount you want).

Yes it is true that passouts of IIM got their packages in lakhs and crores but they have studied hard. They are not only good in their academics but also in co-curricular activities.

Have you ever searched what happens after getting high packages from IIM’s.it is not an easy life rather a competetive life where you have to update yourself wth time to time oryou are out of the race.

You want earn a lot money? But IIM (or MBA) is not the only option!

2) Don't know what to do :

You don’t know what to in life, and either your parents or one of your relatives has suggested you to to  MBA form IIM (i.e. prepare for CAT).

There is one year left to complete your bachelors. So your parents will enroll you in one of the institutes, so that you can prepare for CAT exam or other management exams (like XAT, NMAT, SNAP, etc.)

Don’t waste your parents money! If you don’t know what to do, you will be less interested in that and if you are not interested then you won’t be able to study hard.

And the time will come when you will say, “what the hell is going on? Why I’m doing this?”. So first find out what you like and really wanted to do and DO IT !

 3) You want to do business :

You want to do business, so you have made you mind to do your MBA from one of the top B-Schools and start preparing for CAT. The thing which I’m about to say is not only my thought but also of many self made millionaire.

After clearing CAT, you are going to study MBA at IIM (or any other B-School) by spending Rs. 15-20 lakhs on that course. If you have money that’s great but if you don’t have then education loan is the best option.

So that means you are going to do MBA just to learn how to do business by spending your precious money and not to mention your time. After 2 years when you will get MBA degree you may or may not start doing business, but you will definitely have to repay the debt plus interest on it.

If you take my advice, don’t go to IIM if this is your reason. Instead you should actually spend your time, money and energy on actually doing business that will give you much more experience than doing MBA.

Even you don’t have to wait for completing your bachelors. Just start doing right now. I know few of my friends who started their small startups after their 12^th and they are doing great.

Believe me! This is the best case scenario for you. Later if you think you should go for MBA, then you can do MBA (or may be you don’t want it!)

      4) You want to prove to someone :

I know that CAT is one of the toughest entrance exam of India. Don’t say, “I’m going to clear CAT because I want to prove _______ to my parents or friends or relatives or society or anybody else………”

You are not born in this world to prove anything to anyone, to do what others are expecting from you. But to do what you wanted to do, what you love to do. You have only one single life, live to its fullest.

When you will start doing what you love, you will surely find a lot of problem and failures but if you still continue on that path you will surely find your success.

 5) Because your friend is doing :

This is one of the worst reasons to do MBA. You are doing your graduation and suddenly you heard from your friend that he\she is preparing for CAT by joining a coaching institute.

You will think, “wow! he\she is so much concerned about their future and suddenly you also wanted to do it.” Remember when you were a kid you want what your friends have, you wanted to do what your friends want. This is same thing.

Going to IIM may be an option for your friend or his\her choice but not yours, so choose carefully. Make decisions so you don’t have to regret later.

Additional Paragraph :

I’m assuming that  most of you, who are reading this might have started going to coaching institute and spend a lot of money (Rs. 40k - 60k) there. May be now this become your reason to so MBA.

But do not fear, if you are thinking to change your choice after reading this. You are LUCKY! Now don’t waste any extra time and money on it.

You must be thinking I’m mad, that you have spend so much money on this and now you cannot back off. You can earn that money back but not time.

Think if you have cleared CAT, you have also spend extra Rs. 15-20 lakhs and then realized later that it is not good for you. Then what? So choose your decision carefully.

I’m writing this because this has happened with me and I have to fight (argue) with parents for whole 2 days to make them understand that this is not good for me and I will make sure to you that I won’t regret this choice later!
